Internships in Australia with the New South Wales Police, Sydney

Spring (SS) or Summer (US) Semester

*MSU students only

(This program is part of the CIC/AESOP Internships in Australia offering. Please check http://www.studyabroad.msu.edu/programs/auscic.html for more details.)

A unique opportunity for you!

A unique opportunity for you!
MSU has a special relationship with the New South Wales Police Service in Sydney, Australia, which offers MSU students an opportunity to earn internship credits (and optional course credits) in Australia's largest and most well-known city. Interns work on a mutually agreed project of field-work program with the New South Wales Police Service. We have support from the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia's premier university, and a close working partner with MSU.

Are you eligible?

Graduate students or undergraduates who will be seniors by the time of the internship and in good standing with a 3.0 minimum GPA are eligible. Graduate students could use the experience as the foundation for their thesis or their policy paper. Undergraduates, as well as graduate students, will find this experience to be a unique addition to their résumés. The New South Wales Police have a wide range of interests for interns that will fit academically qualified students.

Options: Academic credit and program dates?

You have several options: (1) the eight-week internship only (8 credits); (2) the internship plus coursework (16 credits); or (3) The People, Government, Justice System and Public Policies of Australia program plus the internship (16-20 credits).

If you elect to take The People, Government, Justice System and Public Policies of Australia program followed by an internship, you begin January 5 and end about May 1. If you elect the internship only, you begin February 20 and end May 1. If you elect the internship plus additional coursework, you start February 20 and end about June 25. There are also internship options beginning about May 20 and ending August 1.

Credits for the internship and for the MSU program are counted as MSU credits and courses. If you enroll for companion classes at the University of New South Wales, their courses and credits transfer to MSU. All approved credits and courses are accepted as part of your degree at MSU.

Should I consider this and what are the benefits?

This is an opportunity to gain valuable international experience that is of increasing importance to federal and state agencies, and to corporations. At the same time you earn credit toward your MSU degree. It is also a chance to experience a dynamic culture and environment, while staying on track for graduation.

Cost and financial aid?

Room, board and tuition vary from $3,700 to $7,600 depending on the number of credits you elect (8 to 20) and your length of stay (9 to 18 weeks). Financial aid applies in most circumstances to all of the options.
